Hieftje is the recipient of the 2012 ACS Analytical Chemistry Distinguished Service Award.  This award is to recognize an individual who, through professional service in activities such as teaching, writing, research and administration, has substantially and uniquely enhanced the field of analytical chemistry.  Professor Hieftje will be honored at the ACS National Meeting in Philadelphia this Fall and also at the Scientific Exchange (SCIX; formerly FACSS) conference in the Fall.

Professor David E. Clemmer and Robert & Marjorie Mann Chair is the recipient of the 2012 Division of Analytical Chemistry Award in Chemical Instrumentation.  This award is to honor an individual who has advanced the field of chemical instrumentation through outstanding achievements in conceptualization and development, demonstration of innovative use of instrumentation, stimulation of other researchers to use instrumentation and authorship of research papers or book that have had an influential role.  Professor Clemmer will be recognized at the fall National Meeting in Philadelphia.

Adjunct Professor William F. Carroll, Chemistry Department, Indiana University, who is also the vice president of industry issues at Occidental Chemical, is the winner of the 2011 Harry & Carol Mosher Award, given annually by the ACS Santa Clara Valley Section to recognize and encourage outstanding work in chemistry, advancing chemistry as a profession and service to ACS. The award consists of an engraved plaque and a $2,000 grant.

Professor Daniel Mindiola has been chosen as a JSPS Fellow. The JSPS Invitation Fellowship for Research in Japan is offered to promote international scientific cooperation and exchange. It allows researchers employed at designated Japanese research institutions and laboratories to invite fellow researchers from other countries to Japan for short periods of time to participate in discussions, attend seminars, give lectures, or perform similar duties at their institutions. Dan will be collaborating with Professor Hiroyuki Kawaguchi at the Tokyo Institute of Technology during May 2012.

Professor Dan Mindiola was selected as visiting lecturer for the Chemistry Research Promotion Center, National Science Council of Taiwan (Republic of China).  This lectureship (at five universities) is designed to promote chemical research in Taiwan and is awarded to chemists who are internationally highly regarded.
